Condensation is created when there is moisture in the air. When that moist air is in contact with the cooler surrounding area, the moisture turns into little water droplets. This is why you see little puddles at the top of your glasses or dishes when upside down.

Bosch dishwashers use the technology called Condensation Dry. Other appliance companies have models too that do the same or similar things.

With this type of drying method the appliance does not use a heating element at the bottom; instead, there are multiple elements throughout the inside that work together to better dry your dishwasher. The final rinse uses higher temperature water to make it even hotter in the dishwasher. Having stainless steel walls inside helps isolate the heat. Once the temperature drys, the stainless steel actually cools down faster than glass and porcelain making less water droplets.

Condensation drying is more energy efficient and more hygienic than the traditional way of dishwasher drying.

Because there is not heating element on the bottom, it is actually safe to put plastic bowls and materials on any level of rack.

If you are not quite ready to upgrade your dishwasher to have Condensation Dry, here are 6 tips and tricks to reduce condensation:

1. Have the top rack not placed straight but at a tilt. This will make the water drop down instead of staying on your dishes on the top shelf.
2. Use A rinse aid like Jet Dry which reduces the surface tension of water making the dishes dry better.
3. Use the sanitize cycle to make the temperature of the dishwasher at hotter temperatures.
4. Have more space in between your dishes and make sure that they do not touch. This will help with the air circulation of the water and air.
5. As soon as the cycle is done, try to open the door right away to allow the moisture to evaporate out of the dishwasher.
6. Start by emptying the bottom rack to avoid spilling the extra water caught on dishes on the top rack to fall down on the bottom rack dishes.

Measure Before You Buy (Dishwasher)

Often when consumers purchase a dishwasher they assume they are all the same size.  For the most part this is a true assumption; there is however, one dimension that you must be careful of and a few other things to be aware of:

The Height

• This is the dimension that snags up most people.  Always measure this and take it with you when making your purchase
• Measure from the floor to the bottom of you counter top.
• If your dishwasher sits down from the floor, and there a lip created by your flooring make sure to let your sales person know this because it can create problems.
• Measure both from the lowest part of the recess and the top of the flooring to the bottom of you counter top.  This is two height measurements.

 The Width

• You should have either 24” for standard or 18” for compact

 Depth

• Not something you can measure without installing; for the most part depth is standard
• Sometimes in rare occasion plumbing can create some issue if someone plumbed a line behind the unit.

 Counter Top

• Make sure you know what your counter-tops are made of, this determines if you can have a standard install or if they will have to side mount (For granite, stone, concrete, etc..).

 Things to ask

• Install costs can vary depending on were in the country you live.
• Ask your sales person what to expect with install.
• What parts will most likely be necessary.
• Parts may vary depending on model, local code, and your specific situation.

The most important thing to have is your height and if you can take a picture with you in today’s modern world that can really help make sure there are no surprises in your purchase.

Investing in a New Appliance

Look.  I don’t care what profession you’re in, how much money you make or how much disposable income your family has, purchasing a new appliance can be a major decision and on its surface; can be a huge financial investment.  First, if you take money out of the equation for a second, your household appliances are probably one of the most touched items in your home.  From opening the refrigerator to make your breakfast in the morning to cleaning your dirty laundry, most people are putting their hands on an appliance more than any other piece of equipment in their home.  Yes, including the TV remote.  Then, factor in some of the emotional aspects of your appliances………. your stove was used to cook the food for your son or daughter’s graduation party or your refrigerator was used to keep cool that perfect dessert you spent hours preparing for that special occasion that left a lasting memory for you and your family……your appliances could be considered priceless.
